HOW FAR I'LL GO

In the lighting sequence I devised for this song, my goals were to represent different environments and moods. First, the world Moana longs for: the open ocean and sailing away. Next, her island home, where she feels some emotional conflict. In moments of intense confusion, I accentuated the emotion with a vivid pink color and a geometric shattered pattern, for contrast with the rest of the design.

The overall mood is one of hope and longing. My research and reference images heavily feature strong backlight, silhouettes, and dramatic side lighting, so I concentrated on painting the cyclorama with color to create those effects. I also introduced some front and top lights to add variety and to help create a feeling of building or crescendo where the music calls for it.
