Video Editing 

“A SAMPLING OF SEA SHANTIES”

For the capstone project of a video editing class, I chose to create a short piece featuring snippets of some of my favorite sea shanties. This involved not only learning and practicing the technical aspects of Adobe Premiere Pro, such as layering, sequencing, text, and transitions, but also thinking about the viewing experience — introducing some exposition along with fun commentary, while allowing intervals to just listen to the songs.

Finding video and images to support this music was challenging, as sea shanties were in use well before photography became widespread. So I chose to use footage from nautical-themed historical movies that recreated the type of work that might have been done at the time.
